This piece was donated to the 2015 Evangelical Community Hospital Gala auction. The proceeds from this Gala will be benefiting the Cancer Support Programs within the hospital.

A wildflower that is part of the aster family, daisies are associated with purity, innocence, beauty, patience and loyal love. The name “daisy” was derived from “daes eage,” an Anglo Saxon term. A daisy was called “daes eage” or “day’s eye” because these flowers open during the day and close during the night. The Celtics connected daisies with innocence. They believed that daisies came from the spirits of children who had died. To consol their parent’s grief and bring them peace, God sprinkled the flowers over all the earth. Having battled leukemia as a young teen, this association is especially poignant.

Symbolically, daisies bring sunshine into people’s lives, and regardless of our circumstances, we all need a little more sunshine in our lives. I hope this piece will bring joy and beauty its new home, and that it is fully enjoyed by all who view it.
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” - Galatians 2:20
